Ashdown Audio-Visual, Uckfield, East Sussex:
This specialist audio-visual technology company sought the expertise of Edworthy Consulting to guide them through implementing a management system to achieve ISO 9001 certification.  Working with the owner and other top management, we helped them understand the requirements of the still to be published ISO 9001:2015 and built the management system around those requirements so that they had a head-start on other organisations still working to the 2008 version.  The updated standard contains requirements that made the management system much more applicable to this small business and useful in terms of addressing their key business risks.  Ashdown AV's management system was assessed and certified to ISO 9001 in February 2015 by UKAS-accredited auditors, The Audit People of Eastbourne, East Sussex.


ADA Computer Systems Ltd., Burgess Hill, Sussex: This IT systems and services company wished to introduce an effective management system and to achieve ISO9001: 2000. Working with the management team, the company processes were mapped-out, management systems devised and tested, and training given to all company staff. Their management system was assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by ISOQAR in May 2004.

Agate Products Ltd., Chessington, Surrey: D.G.Edworthy Associates helped this established and successful family business (providing fabrication and manufacturing of ultra-hard materials) to fine-tune their systems and guide them through ISO9001 assessment and certification by: -

  • Reviewing the existing QMS and recommending further enhancements
  • Helping the company design and implement additional control systems
  • Training internal auditors to make auditing a value-adding activity
  • Guiding the company through its first Management Review meeting
  • Training staff in Quality Awareness

The company’s efforts were rewarded in August 2007 with a successful assessment to ISO9001:2000 by BSI.

Application Solutions Ltd, Lewes: In addition to providing software-related (TickIT) QA consultancy from July 1998 to February 2001, I helped this software house achieve ISO9000 accreditation for their new hardware manufacturing facility. I helped them develop manufacturing procedures and standards and integrate them into their existing ISO9001:1994 quality management system. The project was successful and in the autumn of 1999 the company was assessed by their certification body, DNV, and granted an extension to the scope of their accreditation to include manufacturing. The company’s qms then underwent a major tri-annual re-assessment by DNV, with zero non-conformities.

Aviamax Ltd., Robertsbridge, East Sussex: We helped this stainless steel fabrication company serving the medical and pharmaceutical industries to design and implement a quality management system to ISO9001: 2008.

With a small labour force and straightforward processes, a management system was developed around the company’s existing business model and was successfully assessed and certificated by BVQI in September 2008.

Baldwin Boxall Communications Ltd, Crowborough: I had originally helped this communications technology company to become ISO9002: 1994 accredited by 'mentoring' a Quality Manager promoted internally, and guided their progress in devising and implementing their quality management system. I provided independent auditing services to help them assess their progress towards ISO9002 compliance and provided support during the assessment and accreditation process. The company was successfully assessed by BSI and achieved ISO9002 accreditation in 1998. I continued to provide independent auditing of their quality management system to supplement their internal auditing, and helped them with their transition to ISO9001:2000. They were awarded their ISO9001: 2000 certificate by BSI in April 2003.

Carville Switchgear Ltd., Burgess Hill, West Sussex: This established low-voltage switchgear design and manufacturing company wished to introduce an effective management system and to achieve ISO9001: 2008.

Working with the Company Secretary and company management, the company processes were mapped, management systems devised and tested, management systems training was given to all company staff, and internal auditors attended a D.G.Edworthy Associates public value-adding auditing training course. The company’s management system was successfully assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by UKAS-accredited certification body, LRQA, in January 2009.

The company demonstrated their satisfaction with our performance by inviting us back to help the company enhance the management system still further through training staff in Corrective and Preventive Action and we are currently working with them to achieve ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certification.

Chalvington Barns Ltd., Hailsham, East Sussex:This is a successful development and construction company that I helped to design and implement a quality management system that meet their requirement for a comprehensive business management system, and met the requirements of ISO9001:2000. The company was successfully assessed in May 2003 by the UKAS-accredited certification body, NQA.

Ecotech Industries Ltd., Newhaven: As a new company, Ecotech recognised the need to get quality management built-in to their company operations right from the start. D.G.Edworthy Associates were contracted to help the management team design and implement quality systems for the high-tech ceramic coating services offered by the company. The organisation was successfully assessed and certified by UKAS-accredited ISOQAR – with no nonconformities - in October 2004.

Effective Case Management, Haywards Heath, West Sussex: Providing documentation management services for the legal profession, this growing and dynamic company felt the need to refine and enhance their management systems by designing and implementing an ISO9001: 2000-compliant system. Their objectives were to provide an effective quality management system that would help the company to grow and demonstrate to clients the company’s commitment to customer service. Their management system was assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by ISOQAR in April 2004, with zero non-conformities.

Health Management Ltd., Ringmer, East Sussex: Providing healthcare management to national and multinational organizations, this dynamic and growing company wished to establish effective management systems before embarking on further expansion. Doug Edworthy worked with the management team to map the key revenue-earning and support processes, and then to improve and incorporate existing management controls into a coherent quality management system. The company’s management system was successfully assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by UKAS accredited ISOQAR in November 2005. Working with the directors and staff, the company processes were mapped-out, management systems were devised and tested, and training was given to all company staff and to internal auditors. The company’s management system was successfully assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by UKAS accredited ISOQAR in November 2005.

Geoff Bullen Electronics Ltd., Goring-by-Sea, West Sussex: An established and successful designer and manufacturer of electronics assemblies and supplier of hard-to-source components, GBE Ltd. saw the implementation of an ISO9001 QMS as essential to their future business growth. D.G.Edworthy Associates worked with the staff and management of the company to define the business objectives for their QMS and then to design and implement a management system that met their needs and achieved ISO9001 certification. We also provided one-to-one internal auditor training to a new member of the company audit team. The company was awarded their ISO9001: 2000 certificate by ISOQAR in May 2005. HRC Concrete, Hailsham, East Sussex:This is a successful and rapidly growing cementation supplies company that needed to design and implement a quality management system while the organization was still at manageable size. I helped them meet their requirement for a comprehensive but simple and effective business management system, and to meet the requirements of ISO9001:2000. The company was successfully assessed in September by the UKAS-accredited certification body, ISOQAR. In their feedback the company said “A great job. Thank you Doug.”

LCE Architects Ltd., Brighton: As an established but growing architectural practice with UK and international clients, LCE Architects recognised the need to formalise their business management systems and obtain an internationally-recognised certification for quality management. D.G.Edworthy Associates worked with the Partners and Senior Management of the practice to design and implement systems that helped them achieve their business objectives. The organisation was successfully assessed and certified by UKAS-accredited ISOQAR in October 2004.

L.G.Optical (Mfg.) Ltd., St Leonards-on-sea: This scientific and ophthalmic optical manufacturing business had an existing ISO9002:1994 certification from a non-UKAS accredited organisation, and I helped them design and implement an ISO9001:2000 management system that was successfully assessed by ISOQAR (a UKAS-accredited certification organisation) in November 2002.

Morton’s Fork Ltd., Chichester, West Sussex: This high-quality catering company wished to introduce an effective management system and to achieve ISO9001: 2000. Working with the Managing Director and senior management, the company processes were mapped, management systems devised and tested, familiarisation training was given to all company staff (both in-house and at their client’s premises at Rolls Royce and Dover Castle), and internal auditors were trained in value-adding auditing. The company’s management system was assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by UKAS-accredited certification body, BM TRADA, in May 2007.

Central to our aims was to ensure that our culture and missions were embedded within our QMS. Penta International, Eastbourne: I helped this educational consultancy company to devise and implement a quality management system that helped the company to achieve ISO9001:2000 certification. Their systems were assessed by ISOQAR and granted certification in October 2003.

Personal Service Travel, Eastbourne: This established travel and holiday company wanted to implement a quality management system that provided them with a structured system to manage their business, and wanted to achieve ISO9001: 2000 registration in 2003 - the company’s 50th anniversary. I helped them design and implement an ISO9001: 2000 management system that incorporated much of their existing good management practices, and the system was successfully assessed by BSI (a UKAS accredited certification organisation) in April 2003.

Public-i, Hove, East Sussex: Supplying innovative e-participation products and services to the public sector, this young and dynamic Sussex-based company wished to formalise their quality management system and to achieve ISO9001: 2000. Working closely with their management team, the company processes were mapped-out, management systems were devised and tested, and training was given to all company staff and to internal auditors. The company’s management system was successfully assessed against ISO9001: 2000 by UKAS accredited TUV in February 2005. In their feedback the company said “We thoroughly enjoyed working with you & you made all the difference to the process for us – thank you for all your help!”.

Safe Offshore Systems, Broadbridge Heath near Horsham, West Sussex:To meet offshore industry requirements for certification of their diesel engine flame trap and safety equipment, Safe Offshore Systems had just four months to devise and install an ISO9001: 2000 compliant quality management system, and to get it certificated by a UKAS-accredited organization. D.G.Edworthy Associates worked closely with the company management to design and implement a management system that kept paperwork to a minimum, provided an effective system of performance measurement, and met the requirements of ISO9001, all within the agreed timescale. The company was successfully assessed in May 2003 by the UKAS-accredited certification body, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

SFW Ltd., Woking, Surrey: This IT solutions and services company wished to introduce an effective management system and to achieve ISO9001: 2008.

Working with senior management, the company processes were mapped, management systems devised and tested, documented in a Windows Sharepoint system to provide full accessibility and document control, familiarisation training was given to all company staff, and internal auditors were trained in value-adding auditing. The company’s management system was assessed against ISO9001: 2008 by UKAS-accredited certification body, ISOQAR, in August 2009.

Treework (Tunbridge Wells) Ltd., Frant, East Sussex: A growing and successful family-run business, Treework (Tunbridge Wells) provides tree-surgery and arboricultural services in the Tunbridge Wells area of Kent and East Sussex to private, business and local government customers. To provide a firm foundation on which to grow their business the Directors chose D.G.Edworthy Associates to help them design and implement a quality management system and achieve ISO9001 certification. Working with the company management team a quality system was developed to best suit the company’s business and, on 6th March 2008 the company was awarded ISO9001:2000 Certification by UKAS-Accredited TüV.
